ABS Lko chapter-- Office

The closure of the British Council Library necessitated need for a venue. Thus Prof (Dr) Nishi Pandey of the Academic Staff College, Lucknow University, volunteered to shift the office premises to the University campus at the Academic Staff College in July 2003 in order to
Her contention was that presence of the ABS on the University campus will help in;
a) Effective dissemination of information of its events/programmes/scholarships to the various faculties and departments
b) Easy access to target group/UG/PG students,research scholars and academicians
Greater visibility of the association in the city

Why the need?

Ever since the British Council closed down the British Council Library in Lucknow, the haven for scholars-- that Literary Mecca which was once the watering hole of scholars, readers, book lovers and other uninitiated searching for the written word, Lucknow, the literary Mecca, that Lakhnau once hailed as the Paris of the East, has been devoid of that watering hole.
An attempt, made to revive the chapter, in 2003 failed since I myself, a Chevening Scholar, Batch of 1999, was, soon after forced by circumstance to concentrate more on my journalistic abilities and skills and career building than keeping track of wassup with other scholars.
Mea Culpa.
But then it dawned on me-- why do we need to have a geographical centre at all. As a member of the Lko chapter of Caferati and Ryze-- the existence of a bloggers world created that watering hole in cyberspace-- one that today's youngsters can understand and seek the Holy Grail from.
